Dead Lucky (TV Series)

Dead Lucky (2018-)

Dead Lucky is a tense four part Australian crime drama starring Rachel Griffiths (from the American TV series Brothers & Sisters) and Yoson An. It streams on Acorn TV.

When Corey Baxter, the man who killed detective Grace Gibbs’ (Griffiths) previous partner in the midst of a convenience store robbery, resurfaces in Sydney, his return precipitates Gibbs’ professional and personal lives spiraling out of control. Now that Baxter is back in her city, Gibbs is determined to bring him to justice no matter what despite her career hanging on by a thread due to escalating anger management issues on the job and a new partner, trainee detective Charlie Fung (An), who blames Gibbs for her previous partner’s death. In the intervening months since her last encounter with Baxter, no one has carried the weight of the blame for her partner’s death more than Gibbs herself, whose personal and professional lives have both begun to buckle under the weight of guilt she carries about it.

When the store owner of Baxter’s latest convenience store robbery is shot and killed, it appears that Baxter circled back, leaving more dead bodies in his wake as he is known to do. But these crimes are more tangled and complicated than they initially appear while the police frustratingly remain a step behind Baxter as they try to track him down before he kills again.

Though Grace Gibbs is a complicated, stubborn woman, she’s good at her job and determined to find the truth. While her boss is looking to maneuver Gibbs out of her job, Gibbs’ earns her partner Fung’s respect as she navigates a complicated case. Suspenseful and heart pounding, Dead Lucky focuses on the crimes at its forefront while also addressing the precariousness of the position of foreign students studying at Australian universities and their vulnerability to those who prey on outsiders.
